The Winnipeg Jets, led by the legendary Bobby Hull (123 pts) sweep the Houston Aeros 4-0 to win their first Avco Cup, ending Houston's two year reign as champions. Quebec's Marc Tardif leads the league in points (148), goals (71) and assists (77) and bags the newly-named "Gordie Howe Trophy" as league MVP. Gordie, at age 47, is still going strong and finishes the season as a top 10 scorer with 102 points. Indy's Michel Dion (.910 sv%, 2.74 GAA) wins the Ben Hatskin Trophy as the league's best goaltender. Winnipeg's Ulf Nilsson is named MVP of the playoffs with 26 points in only 13 games.
