Lightning strikes twice as Tampa Bay defeats the Montreal Canadiens in five games to repeat as Stanley Cup champions. The Lightning are pushed to the brink by the New York Islanders in the semifinals, but the defending champs prevail with a 1-0 shutout in game seven. Due to the on-going covid-19 pandemic, the regular season is reduced to 56 games and cross border travel restrictions force the league to temporarily realign, putting all seven Canadian teams into one division. The top four teams in each of the four realigned divisions qualify for the 2021 playoffs:

Minnesota's Kirill Kaprizov (51 pts) claims Calder Memorial rookie of the year honors, while Tampa's Andrei Vasilevskiy wins the Conn Smythe for his stellar net-minding throughout the playoffs where he presides over 5 total shutouts.
