Defense wins championships! The Cleveland Barons finish only 5th in the league in total points (79), but that doesn't stop them from going undefeated in the playoffs and hoisting their ninth Calder Cup. A deep, balanced squad with a great defense and quality goaltending proved to be the recipe for Cleveland's success. It was an incredibly competitive regular season with only 6 points separating the league's top 5 teams: Quebec Aces (83), Pittsburgh Hornets (83), Rochester Americans (82), Hershey Bears (77). Cleveland's Fred Glover (26 goals, 50 assists) is named league MVP, while his teammate Ted Harris earns Defenceman of the Year honors. Gerry Ehman, of the Rochester Americans, is the league's leading scorer with 85 points (36 g, 49 a). Pittsburgh's Roger Crozier wins Rookie of the Year along with Goaltender of the year honors.
