THE 1966-67 AFL SEASON:

The Kansas City Chiefs, led by All-Pro quarterback Len Dawson, hammer the Buffalo Bills 31-7 to win their second AFL Championship. The Chiefs go on to face the Green Bay Packers in the first-ever NFL / AFL Championship game (later to be known as the Super Bowl). The AFL expands to nine teams this season with the addition of the Miami Dolphins. Boston Patriots fullback Jim Nance wins Player of the Year honors with his league leading 1458 yards rushing. San Diego's Lance Alworth (a.k.a. "Bambi") leads all receivers with 1383 yards, while Jet's "Broadway Joe" Namath tops all passers with 3379 yards through the air. Bobby Hunt and Johnny Robinson, both of the ball-hawking Chiefs, lead the league with 10 interceptions each. Six of the nine teams have records of .500 or better: Kansas City (11-2-1), Buffalo (9-4-1), Boston (8-4-2), Oakland (8-5-1), San Diego (7-6-1) and New York (6-6-2).
