THE 1984 SEASON:

Michael Jackson thrills the Billboard charts. Ghostbusters and Beverly Hills Cop dominate the box office. Miami Vice takes T.V. by storm, while another Miami phenomenon known as Dan Marino lights up the NFL with one of the greatest seasons by a quarterback ever! The Dolphins (14-2) ride the golden arm of their second year MVP all the way to Super Bowl XIX, where they meet up with the team of the decade, the San Francisco 49'ers (15-1). The Niners, who have a pretty good quarterback of their own in Joe Montana, spoil the Fins party with a 38-16 whooping to earn their second Lombardi trophy. The 49'ers become the first team in NFL history to win 18 games in a season.

Several all-time records are broken during the year. Marino raises the bar for passing yards (5084), TD's (48), and completions (362). Eric Dickerson (Rams) rushes for 2,105 yds. James Wilder (Buccanneers) totes the rock 407 times. Art Monk (Redskins) hauls in 106 passes. Mark Clayton (Dolphins) sets the mark for receiving TD's with 18, while Mark Gastineau (Jets) crushes QB's and the sack record with 22.
