THE 1969-70 NFL SEASON:

 

 

The Minnesota Vikings clobbered the Cleveland Browns 27-7 to become champions of the NFL's 50th season. A week earlier, The Vikings narrowly defeated the Los Angeles Rams 23-20 in Minnesota to earn their championship berth, while the Browns had a much easier time in Dallas whipping the Cowboys 38-13. Washington's Sonny Jurgensen led the league with 3102 passing yards. Roman Gabriel of the Rams threw for 24 TD's and earned MVP honors. Chicago's Gale Sayers led the league with 1032 rushing yards, while Harold Jackson of the Eagles topped all receivers with 1116 yards. Mel Renfro led the league with a career high 10 interceptions for the Cowboys. Mean Joe Greene was Defensive Rookie of the Year on a hapless 1-13 Steelers squad. This was the final season before the NFL / AFL merger.
