THE 1966-67 NFL SEASON:

Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers repeat as NFL champions with a narrow 34-27 victory over Tom Landry's (Coach of the Year) Dallas Cowboys. The Pack goes on to soundly defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 in the first-ever NFL / AFL Championship game (later to be known as the Super Bowl). The NFL, now in it's 47th season, expands to 15 teams with the addition of the Atlanta Falcons. Green Bay's future hall of fame QB Bart Starr is named league MVP in his 11th season. Starr throws only 3 interceptions and finishes the season with a 62.2% completion percentage and a 105.0 passer rating. Washington's gunslinger Sonny Jurgensen leads all QB's with 3209 passing yards. The great Gayle Sayers of Chicago needs only "18 inches of daylight" to become the league's top rusher with 1231 yards, while Detroit's Pat Studstill (who also punts) leads the NFL in receiving yardage with 1266. Cardinal's great Larry Wilson, leads the league with 10 interceptions. Nine teams have a record of .500 or better: Dallas (10-3-1), Cleveland (9-5), Philadelphia (9-5), St. Louis (8-5-1) & Washington (7-7) in the Eastern Conference. Green Bay (12-2), Los Angeles (9-5), Baltimore (8-4) & San Francisco (6-6-2) in the West.
