New York City FC wins their first ever MLS Cup, defeating the Portland Timbers in a 4-2 shootout after finishing regular time in a 1-1 tie. The New England Revolution win their first Supporter's Shield, and in the process breaks the record for most regular season points collected with 73. New England's Carles Gil (4 goals, 14 assists) wins league MVP and Comeback Player of the Year honors, while his teammate Walter Turner (103 saves) is named Goalkeeper of the year. Valentin Castellanos of New York City FC claims the Golden Boot Award with 19 goals, while Nashville SC's Walter Zimmerman brings home Defender of the year honors.
